This year’s motto was ‘From Vision to Action: Crafting GEO’s Post 2025 Implementation Plan’, and the two back-to-back events focused on translating the GEO Post-2025 Strategy into a detailed and costed Implementation Plan for the next decade.
The presence of the Greek GEO Office and the Greek EO community was once more substantial and well noticed in several sessions. The Director of the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development of the National Observatory of Athens and Director of the Greek GEO Office, Dr Evangelos Gerasopoulos, in his opening speech as the co-chair of GEO’s Programme Board, highlighted the great expectations of the global community from GEO to contribute with data and knowledge to confronting the impacts from the triple planetary crisis. He also had the privilege to moderate one of the main Plenary Sessions devoted on “Transformative Programmes for GEO”, introducing the new Structure of GEO’s Work Programme, as transformed to serve the more efficient transition of research to operational services for a wide variety of users, with emphasis on GEO member states.
While the call for the submission of new GEO activities is now open until the 31th of October, in his closing remarks, Dr Gerasopoulos encouraged new EO players around the globe to come with new ideas and enrich the work programme with innovative EO solutions that solve real problems, even in the most remote corners of the planet.
Please take your time to navigate through the programme and stay tunes as videos will be soon available!
The Greek EO community is highly encouraged to read carefully through the existing GEO Wok Programme activities and explore opportunities for networking or the proposal of new activities. The Greek GEO Office remains at your disposal for any further clarification or coaching!
