Stavros Solomos was born in Athens, Greece in 1976. He received his B.Sc. in Physics, M.Sc. in Environmental Physics / Meteorology and PhD in Meteorology / Atmospheric Modeling from the University of Athens, Greece in 2001, 2003 and 2011 respectively. Since 2013, he is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) of the National Observatory of Athens. During 2006-2013 he worked as research associate at the Atmospheric Modeling and Weather Forecasting Group at the University of Athens. His fields of expertise include climate change and impacts on regional weather, severe atmospheric phenomena (e.g. hurricanes, floods, dust storms), direct and indirect aerosol effects in the atmosphere, air pollution, wild fire modeling, satellite data assimilation and renewable energy. As a researcher he has participated in more than fifteen (15) international and national projects related to atmospheric processes, air pollution and climate change. He has eight (8) publications in peer review journals and more than 35 presentations in scientific conferences on atmospheric fields. He has received the 2010 EURASAP Young Researchers 1st Award at the 31th NATO/SPS ITC and the 2014 Copernicus Masters best service award as a member of the FireHub team of NOA.
