SensorValidation

Smart air quality sensors are increasingly utilized within dense IoT networks to monitor pollutant ambient levels and humans' exposure. Despite recent advances in sensor technologies, their reliability is an important prerequisite, necessitating rigorous performance evaluation and calibration in comparison to reference-grade instrumentation. In this new study by APCG, we performed a group field evaluation of Purple Air PA-II devices (low-cost PM sensors) in two urban environments and across three seasons in Greece, in comparison to different types of reference instruments. We say yes to low-cost sensors under the condition of thorough calibration and frequent checks, as a further means to inform citizens and decision makers in real time!
