The paper's focus on SDG 11.6.2, which is related to air pollution, highlights the significant policy implications on the different ways that the indicators is and needs to be monitored, for addressing this pressing environmental challenge which has direct health consequences for urban populations.
Our methodology offers alternative, novel EO-based solutions covering several spatial resolution needs and its effectiveness is evaluated versus official UN and Eurostat values. It is shown that concrete estimates of the indicator value can be derived useful at different authority levels (national, city, intracity), however, the selection of the resolution can introduce implications with respect to official reporting and understanding these implications deems essential.
All in all, by localizing SDG 11.6.2, cities can develop targeted interventions to reduce air pollution levels and improve public health outcomes.
