The CARMINE project partners convened in Athens for two transformative days to explore climate mitigation and adaptation strategies. The event, which was organized by the Sustainable Development Unit of the Athena Research Center (ATHENA RC), brought together key participants from seven case study areas of the project, laying the groundwork for meaningful and tangible solutions.
The workshop included an overview of the Systems Innovation Approach (SIA) and how it's used in Living Labs, diving into the methodology for engaging stakeholders but also the inauguration of the Stakeholder Community Hub to improve cooperation and the elaboration on geo-design for efficient planning.
NOA, as the project’s task leader of the Heat Health Risk Digital Twin (DT) and coordinator of the DestinE initiative, addresses both the long-term urban planning and climate adaptation, as well as the real time management of heat waves in the Athens Metropolitan Area (AMA). The cross-sectoral DT uses live data together with socio-economic data/models, daily mortality, ageing of the population, and the behavioral changes of the current generation who ages. NOA will also be actively involved in the co-design of adaptation and mitigation pathways, through the proposal of Nature based Solutions to achieve urban resilience in AMA.
