Stelios obtained his university degree in chemistry in 2004 and a master’s degree in 2006 (Uni. of Crete, GR). He received his doctoral degree in Atmospheric Chemistry from the University of Crete in 2009, as a scholar of the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology. He continued his research on atmospheric chemistry and physics as a postdoctoral fellow in the Environmental and Chemical Processes Laboratory (Uni. of Crete). In 2014, he was awarded as a Fulbright Fellow and moved to Columbia University (NY, USA), where he conducted research on cloud-aerosol interactions via multiphase processes with the NASA’s Earth System Model, the modelE. In 2016, he received a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowship (IF) (Utrecht University and Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute), to work on climate modelling, focused on the couplings of i) air-quality, ii) aerosol deposition and iii) carbon cycle, in the European state-of-the-art Earth System Model, EC-Earth. In 2018 he moved to the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development at the National Observatory of Athens, as an Associate Researcher in Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Modelling. His current research focuses on atmospheric chemistry-climate interactions, including impacts on the marine biogeochemical cycles.
Research Interests:
global scale numerical simulations of atmospheric and biogeochemical processes, multiphase chemistry in clouds and aerosols, secondary organic aerosol model development, nutrient atmospheric cycle modelling, carbon cycle modelling
